Yoga Anatomy Books

The interest in Yoga Anatomy is growing.

It is important as we grow in our practice of Yoga āsana to learn more about the physical structure that surrounds and houses our Spirit, and to care for ourselves earnestly.

The following 3 Books are recommended by Ashtanga Yoga Canada as great resources. Dr Ray Long's although the most expensive is our top choice. It is detailed, well illustrated, and very applicable, and most of all... easy to read!

Ray Long Yoga Anatomy Book The Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga,
Ray Long

Our hands down favorite Anatomy book is written by Ray Long MD, FRCSC.
The illustrations are awesome!

But even more importantly Dr. Ray Long's expertise is unsurpassed in the field of anatomy.

Dr. Long is a surgeon who also studies Yoga. Who better than Dr. Long to guide us through the beauty of the human body...

Besides, if you were broken, you ultimately end up here at the top of the medical food chain. Dr Long's book is fantastic!

It is the most expensive of the 3 but worth every penny. Consider it an investment. More Information and Purchasing at Bandha Yoga.

Leslie Kaminoff Yoga Anatomy Book Yoga Anatomy, Leslie Kaminoff

Leslie Kaminoff is a Yoga Therapist in New York City. He is the co-founder and head instructor of the Breathing Project a New York City-based yoga studio dedicated to individual, breath-centered yoga practice.

He is highly recommended by Eddie Stern a highly respected certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher in New York City.

The illustrations are good, but the best part of this book is the "obstacles and notes" about all the presented postures.

Anatomy of Movement - Yoga Anatomy Book Anatomy of Movement, Blandine Calais-Germain

Blandine Calais-Germain's book is a classic in movement. First published in 1985 it is the anatomy book most others are based on.

Although not specifically a book about Yoga but it is a classic written by a highly specialized dancer and performer.

Calais-Germain studied physiotherapy at the French School of Orthopedics and Massage in Paris.

The illustrations are quite remarkable, and like we said it is a classic.
