Practicing Ashtanga Yoga with Scoliosis
by: Anonymous

I have taken classes from a very good Ashtanga Yoga teacher named Lucy Martorella. She was in her 50's when I took classes with her, and had been practicing for nearly 30 years.

She had a very severe scoliosis of the spine, which she had developed in childhood. I was able to observe her practice, and she had a daily Ashtanga Yoga practice of the Advanced A & B series, which means she would practice the 4th series of Ashtanga Yoga regularly.

Lucy had said it was one of the best activities she had found to help ease the discomfort caused by the scoliosis, and if she took a few days off from her practice, she felt a noticeable difference.

So, keep practicing! It can only help!
