I've been to other yoga studios in Canada and Europe and this is by far the best. The teachers are knowledgeable and friendly. They are always willing to answer questions after class and give clear instructions during class. The space is comfortable and clean. It has a very welcoming staff and atmosphere. Try it out!

An Amazing ExperienceNEW by: Anonymous
This is what Ashtanga is all about! Great place to practice to learn alignment, to get help with injuries, and to flow and breathe. The teachers and students are friendly and the space is amazing! I highly recommend practicing here.

stinky and NOT traditional AshtangaNEW by: Anonymous
Having practiced at studios all over Canada and Europe I can tell you this is NOT in any way a traditional Ashtanga studio. Also, the studio is insanely stinky in the mornings. Walking up the stairs you have to hold your breath by the time you reach the landing. Even the mysore teacher stinks!

pretty sweet! by: Anonymous
This is the nicest studio I've ever been to! The front desk staff are wonderful, the bathrooms are enormous, the lobby is beautiful, and all the classes I've attended have made the rest of my day feel better than any other. Seth, Carmen, and Guylaine all add their own personal touches to the practice that keep things both challenging and interesting.

Felt very welcome by: Jen
The staff was friendly and welcoming and the studio was very pretty. It was great to get my Ashtanga practice in while visiting Halifax, and I have some new things to work on at home.
One of the best Ashtanga studios I have been to.
Highly recommend it for any visiting Ashtangi, or locals who want a serious practice.

iyengar based by: Anonymous
Beautiful studio space and great location, but not really practising ashtanga. For starters, props are used as a matter of course and the series is not practiced as it should be in the original sequence.

depends on the teacher by: Anonymous
The space is amazing. Large, great bathrooms, friendly staff.
All of the teachers are very nice and knowledgeable in their own way, but some are not very traditional. One particular teacher does not follow the series consistently, adds in non ashtanga postures, introduces long holds, props, and yin yoga in a level 1 ashtanga classes. She's a great teacher but what she is teaching half the time is not ashtanga but some kind of unique vinyasa flow class mixed with long holds. The name of her classes should reflect the content though.
A different teacher openly admits in her bio to mixing iyengar alignment into the ashtanga series which again is not ashtanga since traditional ashtanga has its own alignment.
The morning mysore teacher has an extensive anatomy knowledge but is not very hands on. If you ask a question the answer will be great, but don't expect to get a lot of physical adjustments or assistance without requesting it. If you are a verbal learner he will be great for you.
I have not tried the afternoon mysore teacher.
All in all Halifax is lucky to have such a large ashtanga shala. There are many talented teachers here with their own styles and it may just be a matter of trying them all out to find the right one for you.

Seth has a great studio and the groups of teachers that also teach are incredible. Seth Carmen and Sarah bring humor intelligence and professionalism to the mat each time, they inspire me and I think they will inspirer you. What a joy!

nice place. by: Anonymous
This is great place to practice Ashtanga clean comfortable nice venue, the classes are usually not packed and the instructors (for the most part) are informative qualified and attentive.
What bugs me about it sometimes are instructors that stare out the windows while instructing a class it feels like they would like to be some place else, or instructors who introduce yoga that has nothing to do with Ashtanaga and is not even close to primary or intermediate, these are rare instances.
